Home inspectors have a wide range of prices, especially here in NY. One may charge so little it makes one wonder what he will do when he gets there, and the next home inspector may charge so much that you wonder if he is trying to retire off of this one inspection. Either way, finding a good home inspector should really be the goal. Why do I say that?
A cheap home inspector can be very expensive in the long run. For instance, if he misses a $2,000 defect, that obviously cost you more than if you had hired the home inspector that was maybe $100-$200 more expensive.
So work on finding a good home inspector with real qualifications. Of course, cost should always be one of the questions, but maybe just not the first one.
